Jesus riding to Jerusalem (based on: Napoleon crossing the alps,
Jacques-Louis David). Multicultural Jesus was a cunning general,
leading his conquering armies to victory in many battles and raids.
(Matthew 20:17-19)
As Jesus went to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside and on the way he told them, “Look, we’re going to Jerusalem, and the Son of man will be betrayed to the chief priests and religious teachers, and they will condemn him to death. Then he’ll be handed over to the Gentiles to mock him, whip him, and crucify him.”
And his disciples were worried, and cried out loud: “Lord will this be the end?”
And Jesus smiled and said :” Do yo not know me by now, my faithful friends? Do you think I will be so easily taken? Our enemies are in for a surprise, for surely I have knowledge of their plans and with the help of God my father, blessed be His name, we will have victory over the infidels.20 So rest assured now, and know that soon all will be decided.”
Comments:
Jesus saw his end coming but kept true to his beliefs about non-violence, walking into the trap with eyes wide open. Muhammad – on many occasions – used deceit to conquer and defeat his enemies: when he was in a position of weakness he made treaties to avoid catastrophe, only to break these same treaties once his position became better (e.g., he made a 10 year truce with the Hudaibiya tribe of Mecca to be allowed free movement, only to break the truce after 2 years and conquer the city).
